Camping in cold weather

There are many survival techniques that you need to know when you are camping. But if you really want to ensure that your camping trip in cold weather is comfortable and pleasant, there are additional tips that you will need in order to ensure that you are on the top of the game.

The most important thing to remember when you are camping in cold weather is to remember that you have to keep dry at all costs. Water can reduce the insulating capacity of all kinds of things that you use. Using layered clothing is the best way to provide warmth. Wearing a couple of light sweaters underneath your jacket is a good way of ensuring that you remain warm. It is also a good idea since you can remove a layer in case you get extremely warm from trekking or hiking during the day.

Regular shoes are neither good for insulation nor for keeping the water out. You need to wear mukluks, weather proofed hiking boots or rubber shoes. The specific parts of your body that allow body heat to escape are the ears, the head and the feet. These are the parts that you need to keep covered at all times.

Using mummy sleeping bags is a better option than using the rectangular ones. The mummy sleeping bags have a hood that can be used to cover your head too. Keeping yourself insulated from below is also very important. In fact you should have two times the insulation below as you have above you.
